5. Monsters University

Mike Wazowski has always dreamed of studying in Monsters University and becoming a scarer. His hopes come to a halt when he and fellow classmate, James Sullivan, get thrown out of the scaring program and become outcasts.
Why you should watch it: Mike’s stature and endearing appearance, which makes him less scary to look at, do not stop him from pursuing his dreams. And being told that he’s not scary-looking enough made him even more determined to prove himself. In the end, he makes a lifelong friend and he realizes his full potential. Tell your children to never stop going after what they want in life, just like Mike did.

6. Wreck-it Ralph

Why you should watch it: “Wreck-it Ralph” shows us how we can be too quick to judge at times. Ralph is a misunderstood character who doesn’t have any choice but to act as the bad guy. Encourage them to open up to these “outsiders” to get to know them better.

7. Ratatouille

Remy is different from his rat family. Yes, he likes food. He likes it so much that he is an excellent chef!

Remy showed viewers that anyone can do great things even if they’re small and even if other people (and the society) dictate otherwise. If you come from a family of doctors and are a doctor yourself, don’t force your kid to be one as well. If he/she wants to become a dancer, enroll him/her in dancing classes. If he/she wants to go to Broadway someday, then take him/her to theater workshops.

8. Mulan

Mulan goes to war in her father’s place to defend her country during a time when women stayed at home and looked after the family and the house. Her determination, intelligence, and clever disguise made her a good soldier in an army of men.
Why you should watch it: Mulan is not like most Disney princesses, that is, she was not passive and did not simply wait for her prince charming to come sweep her off her feet. She went to war and saved all of China from the Huns. Impress upon your kids that girls, just like boys, are strong and should always be treated as equals.

9. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie and his grandfather, along with four other kids and their parents, get invited for a tour in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
Why you should watch it: This movie is a classic tale of how good always triumphs over evil. Charlie, a kind boy, was chosen by Willy Wonka over the other disrespectful and spoiled children to run his chocolate factory someday. To emphasize Charlie’s goodness further, he refuses to leave his family, who lives in poverty, to stay in Wonka’s factory. When Wonka visits Charlie, he sees how much he and his family love each other, finally asking all of them to move into his place.

10. Matilda

Matilda is different from the other members of her family. Not only does she love to read, she also has telekinesis, the power to move objects with her mind. She helps her favorite teacher get back her house from her evil step-aunt’s clutches with her special ability, her intelligence, and her bravery.
Why you should watch it: Matilda shows us that being different is okay and that you can stand up to a person, regardless of how young or old you are, when you know you’re right. Kids will surely love the magical element in the movie!
